Week 11 Integrative seminar II

Project 2 – PARTS OF A WHOLE.Today we had a generic, open ended discussion about design. We had a online discussion about how to end up with an element which cannot breakdown further.Here are the images of the mind maps of the main discipline and complimentary disciplines as well.The next mind map will include ‘TAKING ONE CATEGORY AND BREAKING IT DOWN TO AN ELEMENT’.Mind map B will have to specifically pick up one element and break it down to parts.After a lot of discussion, I am thinking of choosing lettering as an element from communication designing and then making my mind map B based on that.Further we discussed about the design context,  I learnt how a major discipline like communication designing could be broken down to simpler elements like size, dimension, proportions and quantity.
I also learnt how a design discipline could be related to factors like economical, physocolgical, geographical and anthropological factors.
As a design student we need to consider the historical development part of the object and the laws and principles which govern them.After thinking about all these aspects, I thought of chosing lettering as my element and then break it down further in mind map B.

Lettering is a huge aspect of communication designing which also includes typography, so I think it will be fun exploring this part of designing.
Also it was our first experience of learning seminar topics digitally, it was quite interesting. Everybody could easily share there mind maps and get reviews via zoom app right from their home. I would be comfortable with this method for the rest of the year as well😅. But class room learning has it’s own impact and pros.

Then via face time, I got my mind map reviewed by Riya and Siddhi.
She told that “Your mind maps are very detailed” although Terminology could have been better”.
Then even I reviewed her mind map and gave her the feedback.
It is an interesting way to find your flaws and grow!.
