Mesopotamia is between Persian gulf and Mediterranean sea. It is the cradle of civilization. It was amongst the fertile area of early agriculture.
Sumer-the land of civilized kings.
Sumer was an ancient civilization whivh was founded in the Mesopotamia region of the Fertile Crescent. It is situated between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
Three important inventions of Sumer.1)Wheel was perfected here.

Cities were occupied by farmers, hunters Fisher folk.
Pottery transitioned from fine hand painted slow wheel pottery to fast wheel mass produced pottery.

Religion-Temple at top of ziggurat were crops were offered.
âAll cities named after gods and goddesses. But the religion was polytheist.(Multiple culture in same city with different religions)
Deities include An(heaven) , Ki(goddess of earth) , Innana(godess of love, beauty, war, prostitution) , Utu (sun), Sin(moon) , Enki( water, knowledge, creation) , Enlil (god of air).

âUnder sargon of Akkad, Sumer was assimilated into Akkadian empire.
Akkadians controlled Sumer but the Sumerian language remained in use under them.- why?
