Week 3 integrative seminar II

We discussed the mindmaps made by various groups and gathered all the information and got a clear picture of Italo Calvino. Then we discussed of our understanding of the chapters of Invisble cities that we had read and interpreted them.

Let us start with the difference between imagination and fantasy.

☆Imagination- Ability to create mental pictures.

☆Fantasy- Situations that are not true.

☆We tried answering that why did ‘Italo Calvino’ changed from political to fantasy writing.

○maybe  to escape from reality.
○to explore a different writing style.
○maybe he was being influenced by other writers.
○tired of war and politics.
○maybe he was bored from reality and facts.
○wanted to travel to imaginative and quircky places.

☆I attempted to describe cities of Vinece in one word/phrases as ma’am asked us to.

After 2 days of reading Invisible cities, I had visited worli sea face, and I tried to use the new words that I learnt from the book to compose a poem.

The subtle soothing waves,
Frivolous quivery space,
With the delusion of race,
Yet unintended surpassing pace!

I had also tried to make a small meme using the key words from the book.

Me: I want to experience every corner of the world.

Assignments: You gotta stifle your travel.

The city of Sophronia is one of the cities that I’ve read and here is my interpretation about it.
According to me the city is being divided into two halves, one is reality and other is the life full of enjoyment and fun. It maybe the consequences of the war that everybody is back to the simple sober lives. Or maybe they all come together to enjoy and then get back to work. Everybody can have different opinion about different things. And every opinion should be considered and respected.


Now let’s look at some design interventions in the book ‘Invisible cities’.
The way staircase was being laid had been described, the stilts, mirror and Reflection, textures and the description of construction through pipes. Everything is just so imaginative and appealing for the reader to keep on reading without a stifle.
The power of imagination of ‘Italo Calvino’ is commendable. The description says it all about his diverse and vast thinking capability.

It is often very difficult to break down the existing stereotype and not to associate things with past. But it is necessary in order to think diversely and differently. I am trying on my level best to watch some imaginative series and observe more of nature and my surrounding and reflecting about it.
